Grant money awarded to make improvements to Johnny Carson Theatre

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92)  The legacy of Northeast Nebraska’s favorite son is continuing to be felt in Norfolk, Nebraska.

The Carson Foundation has awarded a $425,000 grant to the Norfolk Public School District to be used for the Johnny Carson Theatre at Norfolk Senior High.  Dr. Jami Jo Thompson, Superintendent Norfolk Public School District said that the grant funds will be used to improve the already outstanding facility.

“Many advances have been made in the area of sound and lighting in the last 20-years since the facility was built. So we will be installing new upgraded digital lighting and sound systems. We'll also be replacing curtain and rigging system which have become worn in the last 20-years and are becoming a safety issue,” said Dr. Jami Jo Thompson Norfolk Public Schools Superintendent.

Dr. Thompson said that the generous gift will not only enhance the facility, but will also enhance the fine arts programs offered within Norfolk Public Schools and the Norfolk community.
