Iowa appeals FEMA decision over spring ice storm

The state of Iowa is appealing a decision by FEMA over a spring ice storm that damaged five Siouxland counties.

A presidential disaster declaration was declared after the April ninth storm that ruined electrical utility lines.

But, FEMA denied funding to four rural electric cooperatives because the companies did not conduct comprehensive laboratory testing.

The request was for $19M.

The appeal is made on behalf of the Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative, the Lyon Rural Electric Cooperative, the Osceola Electric Cooperative, and the Sanborn Electric and Telecommunications Utility.
