Last minute Christmas shoppers try to cash in on deals

It's the last shopping day before Christmas and Kim Welch is just getting started.

"This is the last place I wanted to be on Christmas Eve," said Welch. "My son wanted beats so I got those. And my daughter, I got her some Iowa State stuff because she's going to Iowa State next year."

And she wasn't the only one still searching for that perfect gift.

"Finishing up my final preparations for family members and enjoying the morning with my daughter," said Dan Ryan.

"Shopping for gifts for my brothers. I got some good t-shirts," said Katelyn Ryan.

There are many reasons people are out shopping the day before Christmas.

"We were just to busy," said Katelyn Ryan.

"Because it's my only day off and I've got to get it done," said Welch.

But shopping late isn't always a bad thing. It can sometimes lead to scoring the best deals.

"We've had some good deals," said Dan Ryan. "Yes, we we're at Yonkers and had some wonderful deals."

"Eddie Bauer had some good deals," said Welch. "Forty percent off everything."

The days following Christmas are typically know as "the gift return/exchange days," and there's one family is a few steps ahead of the rest.

"We're not necessarily shopping for anything," said Theresa Pederson. "We're returning stuff because stuff didn't fit."

Pederson is all done with her holiday shopping. She says returning items has been a smooth process, just as long as she can keep her four kids occupied.

Welch says she was able to start and finish all of her Christmas shopping today. She's hoping that her gifts won't be considered for exchange.
