Families in need enjoy holiday meal at the Gospel Mission

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - More than 150 people ate an early meal Christmas Day at the Gospel Mission in Sioux City.  They feasted on turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

Those who work at the Mission said it's nice to brighten people's holiday.

"It gives them a place to come to that's warm. It gives them a meal, [let's them] spend time with other people if they're alone or something, time to get together, enjoy each other's company," Gospel Mission Cook Patrick Andersen said.

And, the Garcia family said they were so grateful to come here on Christmas.

"This year we had it kind of hard because we had to move from South Sioux City to Sioux City unexpectedly, and money was kind of tight, so it was meaningful that they opened their doors for us to come in," Michelle Garcia said.

Michelle Garcia and her daughter received presents during their meal.

Andersen said they have a lot of leftover turkey they will be serving over the next few days.
