Christmas display talk of the town in Norfolk, Nebraska

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) For many Christmas decorating includes trimming your home with colored lights, and maybe some reindeer or snowmen in the yard, but one Norfolk, Nebraska man's decorations have been the talk of the town for some time now.

Near the intersection of US Highway 81 and Norfolk Avenue sits the home of Robert Schmitz, and his brilliant, multi-colored display featuring a heart with wings and the message "May All Beings Be Well and Happy."

Schmitz says the phrase comes from a Buddhist prayer, and reflects his feelings on what Christmas is all about.

"I like the idea of an open heart. I see Christmas as a time to celebrate the divine love coming into the world and the message of Jesus," said Robert Schmitz, Christmas Display Designer.

Schmitz says the display features thousands of LED lights, and a frame made of pencil rods, clothesline wire and other household items.

He says he spends a lot of time prior to Christmas changing the lights on the display to keep them bright.
