A security camera in North Liberty caught images of what hundreds of people throughout Iowa saw Thursday evening - a bright light streaking across the sky.

Viewers across Iowa in Dike, Sumner and Decorah reported seeing the falling object around 5:40 p.m..
Chase Riehle told KWWL over Facebook, “My boys were out sledding and came in and said the whole sky lit up!”
WHO-TV in Des Moines also reported sightings in Des Moines, Indianola, Pella and even on the Iowa/Missouri border.

Friday morning, North Liberty Assistant Streets Superintendent Dan Lange discovered a security camera at the public works facility captured the streak.  While some have called it a meteor, others point out the object could be some other type of space debris burning in the atmosphere.

If you caught the bright light on camera, please e-mail us at kwwlnews@kwwl.com. If you witnessed the event, please report it here.
