A Siouxland group is gets a big grant, that they say will bring a long-planned animal shelter closer to reality.

The Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska, announced late last week that they have received a $100,000 grant from the Omaha-based Peter Kiewit Foundation.

Shelter officials said, the money will go towards their fundraising efforts to build a new animal shelter facility north of Norfolk.

The grant comes with a condition, over $400,000 has to be raised privately for the facility by the end of 2014 in order for the Shelter to receive the $100,000.

Shelter officials said, that gives them the opportunity to refocus their efforts to raise money, for a building they said is desperately needed for northeast Nebraska.
