Sioux City offers options for Christmas tree disposal

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Christmas is over and some of us may have taken down our trees already, but others may be waiting because they're not quite sure how to get rid of it.

If you live in Sioux City, you have two options. If you have garbage collection, Christmas trees can be picked up by Gill Hauling during the first two weeks of January. They must be cut into four foot lengths in order to be picked up.

Another option is dropping off your tree at the Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center in their lower parking lot.

Whether you are dropping it off curbside or at the nature center, make sure to remove all decorations.

"It's important for people to dispose their trees properly. One of the things we try to avoid with all litter is just somebody taking it out to the side of the road, in the road, and just dumping it in a ditch, or something like that. So, that's primarily what we want to avoid," Sioux City Public Works Director Jade Dundas said.

The Nature Center will be recycling the trees by and using them on their trails. You can drop your tree off here from now until January 12th.
