Police say Sioux City man beat another man with a table leg

A Sioux City man was charged with beating another man with the leg of a table.

53 year-old Loren German is charged with willful injury.

Court documents said, German told police he hit the victim several times for knocking on a neighbor's apartment door.

It happened at 909 Jackson Street.

The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center.

Authorities said, he had a gash on his forehead, and a broken left arm that will need surgery to fix.

Sioux City asks for study of wastewater, proposed changes

Sioux City hired a consultant to do a 6-month study on the cost of removing harmful elements, from the wastewater system.

Officials looked into adding phosphorous.

The superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant said, new regulations will be coming from the state soon.

If action is taken now he said, it can help determine what the costs will be, and prepare the city council and taxpayers.

Sioux City offers options for Christmas tree disposal

 If you are putting your Christmas tree to the curb, keep in mind there are some rules.

In Sioux City, trees were picked up by gill hauling during the first two weeks of January.

They had to be cut into four-foot lengths.

People were able to be dropped off Christmas trees at the Dorothy Peacaut Nature Center,  where they were recycled for use on the hiking trails.

Police: "Use designated drivers" on New Year's Eve

Police are preparing to step up their protection efforts on the roads.

They said, too much New Year's Eve celebrating can be a recipe for a run-in with the law.

 If you drink, don't drive.

Walking home intoxicated, might not be a good idea either, in the cold weather.
