Officers are encouraging people to celebrate the new year with a sober driver

Siouxlanders will be out and about celebrating the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, but those celebrating won't be the only ones out on the roads.

The Nebraska State Patrol is continuing their heightened enforcement efforts as many in the area are ringing in the new year.

Sgt. Scott Rutten said that the State Patrol has participated in the national "You Drink & Drive, You Lose" campaign through the holiday season.

"Tonight [Wednesday], it will be saturation patrols," said Sgt. Scott Rutten of the Nebraska State Patrol. "We'll just have extra officers out working certain stretches of road, obviously one thing we'll be looking for is impaired drivers."

Rutten also said that if a designated driver sees suspicious activity on the roads New Year's Eve, those drivers are urged to report it to the local law enforcement agencies.
