New Year's Day brought snow to much of Siouxland and bone-chillingly cold temperatures to all of the region.

In Sioux City, snowplows and sand trucks were dispatched to clear the streets after a little fresh powder fell in the pre-dawn hours. KTIV Meteorologist Ben Dorenbach measured 8/10ths of an inch of new snow in the KTIV parking lot. During one of his live updates on News 4 Today a private snowplow operator could be seen clearing the station's parking lot behind him.

There were reports of a few traffic accidents in the Sioux City area that may have been weather-related, including one at U.S. Highway 20 and Charles Avenue near Lawton, Iowa shortly after 4am.  Another vehicle apparently slid into a ditch along Interstate 29 northbound in Sioux City near the Floyd Monument.

Temperatures throughout the region were in the single digits Wednesday morning, with some towns with subzero temperatures, including Estherville, which stood at -4 degrees at 9am while Spencer and Storm Lake check in at -2.
