SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)- Sioux City's first baby of 2014 came early Wednesday morning, almost two weeks early.
Nia Harmony Grant was born at 5:19 Wednesday morning, at UnityPoint Health Saint Luke's, weighing seven pounds, one ounce, and measuring nineteen inches long.
Nia's mother said she was surprised when her contractions started at midnight, but didn't think anything of it. Around 4:00am Wednesday morning, she finally called the ambulance. She couldn't believe she was having a New Year's Day baby. "The nurses, they had just gotten off the phone with Mercy and said that no baby was born into the new year yet. Then I got here, and ten minutes later she was here," Rainee Baxter, Macy, Nebraska.
Both of Nia's parents were cheering on the Huskers inside the hospital room, Wednesday afternoon. So, Nia wasn't just the first baby of the new year, but was also born on the day her family's favorite team won the Gator Bowl.
