Sioux City house fire leaves family in frigid weather

A fire forces a Sioux City family out of their home, and into the bitter cold conditions.

It broke out about 7:45 last night at 7-10 33rd street, when the temperature was right around zero degrees.

There were no reports of injuries, and no word yet on what started the fire, which started in the home's basement.

Power had to be cut off in the neighborhood for a while, as firefighters battled the flames.

NW Iowa Army Reserve Unit is called up for duty

The Army Reserve Unit in Pocahontas, Iowa was called up for duty in Afghanistan for the third time in less than five years.

The 4-15th Military Police Detachment also went over in 2009 and 2010.

A deployment ceremony will be held at the Pocahontas High School on January 18th.

Sioux City's first baby of the new year born at Unity Point Health St. Luke's

Sioux City's first baby of the new year made an early arrival.

Nia Harmony Grant was born at 5-19 Wednesday morning, at Unity point Health Saint Luke's.

That was almost two weeks ahead of schedule.

Nia and both of her parents are doing fine.

In fact, they spent Wednesday cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the gator bowl.

Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA offers membership specials for the new year

If you head to the gym soon, you'll likely be in good company.

Gyms typically fill up at the beginning of the year as people make New Year's resolutions to be healthy.

The Siouxland YMCA said, it expects more than 400 people to sign up between now and march.

They're even offered a deal, the fee to join and become a member is 20-dollars and 14-cents.
