SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)- Car professionals in Siouxland want to make sure you remember to take care of your vehicle, too, as it sits out in the cold.
They say that making sure your car's fluids, like coolant and oil, are topped off under the hood. That's key if you want your car to keep running through the winter. "It's relatively inexpensive. Usually they do that when you get an oil change, it's free with an oil change to check and top off all the fluids. So the cost on that is pretty minimal," Bryan Dennis, Ben Fish Tire Mechanic.
Car experts said that your battery is another important thing to get tested.
Also, starting your car ten to fifteen minutes before you drive may save you from a lot of trouble. Most mechanics say you won't spend that much extra in gas, and it's worth every penny. "Ultimately, the fact that you got there, and the car started when you needed it to start, what's that worth to you? I don't know. If you're talking about 75 cents worth of gas to let it warm up, your comfort's probably worth that," Rod Hamm, Service Manager at Knoepfler Chevrolet said.
Hamm says battery checks are usually very inexpensive or even free at most car repair places.
