Officials determine cause of fire at 33rd Street in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)  Officials have determined that heat from an operating fireplace started wood framing materials was the cause of a house fire at 710 33rd Street on New Year's Day.

When crews arrived smoke coming out of the home.  Officials say the fire was contained in the basement, but much of home had smoke damage.

The home, owned by Travis and Nicole Wietzel, has been red tagged.

Fire officials want to remind people, to have their fireplace and furnace inspected annually.
