Sen. John Thune applauds USDA's decision to expand lunch menu

WASHINGTON (KTIV)  U.S. Senator John Thune of South Dakota applauded the announcement by the United States Department of Agriculture to expand the lunch program.

The USDA says they've put in place permanent rules that would allow schools to serve larger portions of lean meats and whole grains in lunches and other meals.

The republican says it will give much needed flexibility to the schools.

"Flexibility is needed to ensure schools continue to provide healthy meals and portions for students," Sen. John Thune (R) South Dakota.

Thune, along with other senators called for changes to what he referred to as a "one-size-fits-all" approach to school lunches.
