The Sioux City Explorers have re-signed RHP Chris Bodishbaugh and RHP Jimmer Kennedy to 2014 contracts and the duo will once again anchor the back end of the X’s bullpen under new field manager, Steve Montgomery. The upcoming season will mark Bodishbaugh’s 3rd season with the X’s, while Kennedy will be back for his second season of work with the X’s in 2014.
Bodishbaugh turned in another sensational season for the X’s in 2013, as he collected 39 strikeouts and only allowed 12 walks in 38.2 innings of work, while recording 13 saves to go along with a 1.86 ERA. For his two year career with the X’s, the right hander from Oakley, CA has recorded 94 strikeouts to just 24 walks in 90.3 innings, while earning 30 saves.
Kennedy also played a major role in the back end of the X’s bullpen by appearing in 43 games and compiling a 2.89 ERA in 62.1 innings of work, while recording 7 saves and striking out 50 batters and only yielding 21 walks. In his four seasons of professional baseball, the Levittown, PA native has pitched a majority of his career out of the bullpen. Appearing in 126 games, the 26-year-old has thrown 173.0 innings, while collecting 153 strikeouts and only allowing 51 free passes, sporting a solid 3.90 career ERA. For his career, Kennedy owns a strikeout – to – walk ratio of 3.0 to 1.
“Re-signing Bodishbaugh and Kennedy are two major pieces to start to solidify our bullpen for the 2014 season,” comments new field manager Steve Montgomery. They both had a great year last year and I am looking forward to them being a big part of our bullpen success once again this season.”
