SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)- Girls, Inc. stayed open Monday for young women who may have needed somewhere to go on the freezing day.
They served breakfast, lunch, and snack to a group of girls.
The staff spent the day entertaining the girls with games, crafts, and karaoke. Girls, Inc. doesn't usually stay open when schools are closed.
They wanted girls to have a warm place to go and be active on their day off. "We don't want the girls to be left home alone. For many children, being home alone means not only a safety issue, but also being sedentary. We want to keep them active, we want to keep them engaged with each other. Those are valuable social skills they're learning in every minute that they spend together," Mandy Engel-Cartie, Executive Director of Girls, Inc. said.
Girls, Inc. is open every day after school to help young women with homework and more.
