Fire damages Milford, IA duplex

A fire that damaged a duplex in the Iowa Great Lakes Region.  The Milford Fire Department was called to the scene on 182nd Street just before nine Tuesday night.  The fire was contained to the first floor of an unoccupied side of the duplex.  No injuries were reported, but the fire caused extensive damage to that side of the duplex and smoke damage to the other.  The cause is under investigation.

Ice jams raising concern along the Missouri River

A Jefferson, South Dakota couple is keeping a close eye on the Missouri River.  Bob and Dee Phillips built their home on the banks of the river 35 years ago.  They're worried about ice coming down from Ponca that has been jamming and raising the water level.  Their house is high enough to avoid flooding, but if the water rises too high, the road to their home would be flooded.  The Army Corps of Engineers is keeping an eye on the situation and says for now, it looks relatively stable.

Sioux Center looking again at Highway 75 expansion options

A proposal to widen Highway 75 through Sioux Center, Iowa is getting another look.  The plan was put on hold last year amid big resistance from people with homes along the highway.  But the Iowa Department of Transportation has provided new funding to launch another study to look into options for addressing increased traffic through Sioux Center.  The highway is currently three lanes wide.

Norfolk leaders look at possible indoor rec facility

Norfolk, Nebraska leaders are studying a possible indoor recreational facility that outdoor sports enthusiasts could enjoy year-round.  Tuesday night, folks got a look at the initial results from a feasibility study funded by the Norfolk Area Visitors Bureau and various city and county entities.  Officials say a facility would have to be a partnership between public and private entities.  The next step is narrowing down what type of facility is needed and how much money is needed to make it happen.
