Investigation underway after South Sioux City, NE mom leaves child in a vehicle for nine hours

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (KTIV) - An investigation is underway after officials say a South Sioux City, Nebraska, mom left her child a car for nine hours as temperatures hovered in the teens.

The Union County Sheriff's Department says Anna Salas went to work in Dakota Dunes around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say, around 5:00 p.m. that night, the child's father went to daycare to pick up their 2 year-old, but was told the child was never dropped off.

The father contacted the mother.  That's when she found the child in her car.

The child was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.  The child was treated and released.

No charges have been filed.  The case has been sent to the Union County State's Attorney for review.
