Woodbury County's minimum security facility may be in jeopardy

When budget time rolls around, it often means finding ways to cut back for the next fiscal year.

That's true as Woodbury County supervisors delve into the 2015's fiscal year budget, the county's minimum security facility could be a casualty.

Board chairman George Boykin brought up the idea of closing Prairie Hills in Sioux City.

That's the facility that houses about 30 low risk inmates.

Boykin says he thinks it could be closed to save money but Sheriff Dave Drew says the idea comes out of the blue and it's not a good idea for the county.

After two years as Hartley, Iowa's "top cop", Mark Younie is out of a job.

But, he says, it wasn't his choice.

Younie says Hartley's Mayor Clayton Pyle called a meeting and fired him in front of his two officers.

He's filed for a public hearing and hopes that he'll get his job back.

KTIV tried to contact Mayor Pyle and other city leaders.

No one wanted to comment on the issue.

The city is still working to schedule the hearing.

New developments in the legal battle over Argosy Casino's gaming license

The Iowa Supreme Court says an emergency stay will remain in place against orders to suspend a gaming license for Sioux City's new Hard Rock casino.

A high court justice granted a stay December 19 that halted an earlier stay by a Polk County District Court judge.

An order signed Wednesday means the stay will remain in place, and construction on the casino can continue.

Farmers flock to annual Dakota Farm Show

Thursday is the last day to check out the annual Dakota Farm Show in Vermillion, South Dakota.

There are nearly 300 exhibits featuring thousands of products.

Farmers can check out the latest and greatest in the ag industry.

Getting a lot of attention this year, unmanned aerial vehicles.

The show is open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
