SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV)-Businesses are doing their part to help people live longer, happier and healthier lives. It's all part of Sioux City's Blue Zone Project.
On Friday, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place in celebration of Health Inc's birth as a blue zones designated work site. The Blue Zones project is encouraging businesses to make healthy choices easier for employees. When Health Inc's executive director heard about the Program she was excited to join the movement. She says it was a simple, because Health Inc already had the foundation for a Blue Zones worksite.
"It's an investment in our employees," said Karen Van De Steeg. If they're happy and they're healthy, that's good for them personally, but that's also good for us personally because they're going to be able to do a better job and really take care of our patients. Which is our mission so joining the Blue zones and being a certified worksite is just right down the line of what we doing what we're committed to."
Health Inc. is a group that's locally owned by UnityPoint-St. lukes and Mercy Medical Center. It's composed of three non-profit groups including the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
