There is fallout for many local organizations, due to an ongoing dispute between Sioux City's Argosy Casino and it's non-profit partner, MRHD.
Monday night, Missouri River Historical Development voted to put many of its programs on hold, because the money isn't there. One of those programs is handing out yearly grants.
In the past, the Food Bank of Siouxland has received well over $200,000 in grants from MRHD. Executive Director of the Food Bank, Linda Scheid, said the results from the dispute is devastating, not just for the Food Bank of Siouxland, but for the community as a whole. That's because MRHD has given millions of dollars to a variety of local non-profits.
"So they've helped us buy food, they've helped us do somethings with our infrastructure that we needed financial support for, and to know that that's not going to happen this year is really unfortunate for the entire community," said Scheid.
Scheid said the Food Bank will need to start looking for additional grant resources and donors. Scheid's hoping that because of this, more Siouxlanders will step up and help out the Food Bank.
