Officials preparing for new Iowa Rock 'n Roll Museum

Arnolds Parks, Iowa  (KTIV/KUOO) - A fundraising campaign by the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association to build a new museum is about to begin.

The building will be located on Highway 86 just next to Toby Shine's classic car museum and across the street from Boji Bay.

Pederson said, "We've been so lucky to work with Arnolds Park Amusement Park and lease our current museum from them, but we do have about two-thirds of our museum collection in storage right now. We just don't have enough space to really display everything. Since we're a statewide organization our board and our volunteers and our membership have been so supportive in us making sure we have a permanent residence and home in the state of Iowa."

Pederson says they haven't established a goal yet for the fundraising campaign, adding it's still a bit early... "Well we don't have the construction bids yet, so we don't want to put out any false information. It's a multi-million dollar project but we're not exceeding the double digits in the project. But we don't want to put any false information out so you know the construction bid and some of the exhibit fees and all that sort of thing. We're really looking forward to it because it's going to be an interactive, multi-media museum. It will be the first of its kind in the state and in the country specifically celebrating local artists and local music. So you'll not only be able to go and see memorabilia and instruments, but you'll get to hear and watch and participate in the way that music is meant to be experienced, with your eyes and with your ears."

Pederson says the association will continue to lease its building in Arnolds Park even once the new museum is completed. She says it will continue to serve as a satellite museum and that they'll continue to hold their Rock The Roof concerts and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park.
