CHEROKEE, Iowa (KTIV) -- Tyson Foods announces it will layoff about 60 workers at it's Cherokee, Iowa plant beginning Thursday..
A spokesperson for Tyson, said at this point the layoffs are temporary.
The company will work with those impact to find other opportunities, perhaps at its Storm Lake or Dakota City, Nebraska plant.
In October, workers at the Cherokee plant, ratified their new union contract that includes pay raises for maintenance and production crews.
In a statement by Tyson, the company said these layoffs were necessary "as part of its ongoing effort to operate efficiently."
