What the company is calling temporary layoffs kick in Friday at the Tyson Foods plant in Cherokee, Iowa. Sixty workers are being laid off as part of what Tyson calls necessary "as part of its ongoing effort to operate efficiently." The company says it will help affected employees who are interested to find work at its plants in Storm Lake or Dakota City.
Another candidate is reportedly about to enter the race for U.S. Senate in Nebraska. Officials close to the campaign say that Omaha attorney David Domina will announce next Tuesday that he intends to run for the Democratic nomination for outgoing U.S. Senator Mike Johanns' seat. Domina, who used to practice in Norfolk, would be the second Democrat to enter the race. Five Republicans are running.
Hefty seed Company is expanding into northeast Nebraska. The South Dakota-based company is opening a new ag chemical and seed outlet store in West Point. It's Hefty's first presence in the Husker State. It'll mean a few more jobs, and over the next five years, Hefty plans to hire another 10 to 20 workers.
