Iowa guard Mike Gesell says playing for a top ten team is something 'you dream about'.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
For the first time since January of 2002, the Iowa Hawkeyes are in the Top 10 of the Associated Press poll. After a 21-point win over Minnesota on Sunday, Iowa jumped from 14th to 10th in the new rankings with a 15-3 record.
The Hawkeyes trailed the Gophers by two at halftime, but huge second half performances from Devyn Marble and Aaron White lifted Iowa to it's third straight win. Marble scored 15 of his 16 points in the final 20 minutes of action, while White poured in all 18 of his points in the second half.
Iowa has moved up the rankings in each of the last four weeks.
"It's something you dream about as a kid, playing for a Top 10 team, things like that, playing for a national championship. But, at the same time we can't worry about rankings," sophomore guard Mike Gesell said. "We just have to take care of business and the rankings will take care of themselves."
Iowa travels to 21st ranked Michigan on Wednesday at six o'clock.
While the Hawkeyes are trending upwards, Iowa State is are down eight spots to 16th in the new rankings. ISU lost to unranked Texas 86-76 on Saturday -- It's the third straight loss for Iowa State after starting the season 14-0. The Cyclones only play once this week, Saturday at home against #22 Kansas State.
Creighton was 20th but fell out after a blowout loss to Providence. Arizona is still the number one team in college hoops.
