Okoboki, Iowa (KTIV) -- The Okoboji Winter games start Friday.
Organizers say bring on the cold and now for the 34th annual University of Okoboji Winter Games.
Jen Johnson-Roth of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says some new activities have been added.
"An outdoor ice fishing outing, they've organized this great family-friendly event to get people out on the ice; the Methodist Camp in Spirit Lake, they're having a sled head breakfast, that's a freewill donation to the church camp the Saturday of Winter Games and that's from 8 to 1. In addition to the breakfast they're also having turkey bowling. How fun is that?" said Johnson-Roth.
Those are in addition to the traditional events that have been big hits in previous years.
"We've got broomball on Smith's Bay, we have flag football, we even have the snow softball tournament-this is the 21st year for that; the bean bag toss, that will be over on Smith's Bay, too".
While a few activities are kicking off Winter Games already Thursday night, the main kick-off, the annual chili cook-off, will be Friday evening.
Thanks to all the extremely cold weather, there's plenty of ice and the activities typically held on the ice will be held on the lake.
However, activities that were scheduled to be held in the pavilion aArnold'sds Park have been moved to alternate sites due to some remodeling.
