How to recycle glass at a deposit center

Although glass is still accepted curbside, the recycling center prefers you take it to a deposit center.

You're charged five-cents when you buy a bottle of pop, wine, or beer, and as an incentive, get that money back after you return it to a registered recycle center or deposit location.

By Iowa law, any establishment that sells those beverages has to in turn accept them back and return the deposit.

The goal of the bottle bill is to get more people to recycle.

"You get charged a nickel, you get back a nickel. If the store sells it, they have to take it back, or provide you with somebody that does,” said Richard Certain, Lawrence's Can Redemption Manager.
