Sioux City leaders will be asked to withdraw participation in the redevelopment of a downtown hotel

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Monday, city leaders will be asked to hit the pause button on their participation in the redevelopment of a downtown Sioux City hotel.

The city had agreed to invest more than a million dollars in the project to turn update the Sioux City Hotel and Conference Center.

One of the conditions of the city's participation was that the new owner secure an upscale brand for the hotel, like Marriott or DoubleTree.

Since that hasn't happened, Sioux City's Economic Development Director plans to ask the City Council not to move forward.

It's a private project, it can still move forward, without a brand and without the city's financial support.
