Standoff in Sioux County, IA leads to two arrests

Two people are in custody after standoff with Sioux County authorities, Saturday.

The Sheriff's Department says the arrests stem from a 2005 crime in Dickinson County.

Since then, authorities have been looking for 46-year-old Douglas Bobzien on an outstanding warrant for forgery.

After eluding law enforcement several times, he was spotted outside his Hospers, Iowa home at 4090 400th Street.

They say he ran inside his home and a standoff ensued.  Bobzien eventually surrendered.  He was charged with interference with official acts.

His girlfriend, 45-year-old Sherri Whelan was also taken into custody for helping Bobzien avoid being arrested.

She's charged with being an accessory after the fact, and harboring, aiding, and abetting a felon to evade arrest.
