Man accused in a Siouxland shooting case is back in court

A Norfolk, Nebraska man charged with shooting another man at a party last February will be in Madison County Court Monday morning for a pre-trial hearing.  Twenty-four-year-old Arturo Raya was arrested in Texas last July.  He's accused of shooting 20-year-old Devan Key of Norfolk in the abdomen.  Key's injuries were not life-threatening.  Raya faces several felony charges.

Onawa, IA community says 'better late than never' for a healthy you in 2014

Some Siouxlanders in Onawa, Iowa spent a chilly January day outside to encourage others to make healthier choices.  Monona County and the Onawa Chamber of Commerce hosted the "Burr Walk" to kick off the 10-week long Live Healthy Iowa program.  Folks were invited to get out of the house and get active in the winter weather.  The 10 week long Live Healthy Iowa program is open for enrollment until February 10.

Okoboji Winter Games officials continue to monitor ice

Folks by the hundreds braved this weekend's cold weather and hit the ice at the annual University of Okoboji Winter Games.  Activities included broomball, softball, football and the polar plunge, among others.  There were also indoor activities, including the chili cook off Friday night.

RAGBRAI Route to start in Rock Valley for the first time

RAGBRAI's coming back to Siouxland, and for the first time ever, it will start in Rock Valley.  The route for the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa was announced over the weekend.  After rolling out of Rock Valley, the bicyclists will pedal to overnight stops in Okoboji, Emmetsburg, Forest City, Mason City, Waverly and Independence before the big finish in Guttenberg.  This year route is short by RAGBRAI standards:  418 miles.  RAGBRAI 42 is July 20th to 26th.
