NE Nebraska leaders continue to lobby for widening of Highway 275 to Omaha

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92)- A group representing some northeast Nebraska cities along Highway 275 continue to lobby state transportation officials to widen the road.

The group, representing the cities of Norfolk, Wisner, Beemer, West Point, Wayne, Scribner, as well as, Madison County officials talked to the Nebraska Highway Commission about widening the 47-mile stretch of highway connects northeast Nebraska to the Omaha area.

Norfolk Mayor Sue Fuchtman said that the commission already had the next decade worth of statewide highway improvements outlined. "And then after that, there is again another set of projects that will named and we want to make sure that we're in line for that second set of projects," Fuchtman said.

Fuchtman did say a recently-introduced proposal in the legislature could assist with bonding on the project. "The idea is actually take some of those projects and maybe be able to push them up sooner if in fact that you could use dollars bonding those projected amounts."

Fuchtman says current interest rates would be good if the bonding option was taken.
