Sioux City leaders no longer involved with Sioux City Hotel

Monday, city leaders agreed to end the city's involvement in the redevelopment of the Sioux City Hotel, downtown.

The city had agreed to invest more than a-million dollars in the project to update the Sioux City Hotel and Conference Center.

One of the conditions of the city's participation was that the new owner secure an upscale brand for the hotel, like Marriott or DoubleTree.

That hasn't happened, so Sioux City's Economic Development director asked the city to not be involved.

The Council members made the decision official Monday.

"We thought we had a deal and now we don't. We are not doing a deal just to do a deal.  We're going to do a deal because it's the right thing to do for the taxpayers and the right thing for the community and we're not just going to rush into something,' said Bob Scott, Mayor.

The project can still move forward without a brand and without the city's financial support.
