Sioux City Community School Board decides on Hoover Elementary site

Monday, the Sioux City Community School Board reached a decision on the construction of Hoover Elementary School, and addressed safety concerns associated with kids crossing traffic.

The School Board accepted a low bid for the re-construction on the Hoover Elementary site.

The project is estimated at more than $15-million.

The board is continuing plans for two street exits onto Country Club Boulevard.

The school board also offered to help pay for a street improvement which would install a median off of Hamilton Boulevard forcing exiting cars to only turn right.

"We typically wouldn't pay for any improvement to a city street, but in this case we want it to provide safety from the egress, coming off of our campus, which is why we are suggesting ," said Dr. Paul Gausman, Superintendent.

Hoover construction is expected to start this spring, and the school would open in August 20-16.
