One of Iowa's most famous paintings is about to return home after nearly two years of conservation work by experts in California. This summer, it's coming to Sioux City.
The Jackson Pollock painting "Mural" is owned by the University of Iowa. It was a donation from art collector Peggy Guggenheim.
In 2012, it was shipped to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles for research and restoration work. That work has been completed and on June 10th, the 8 by 20 ft painting will go on display inside the Sioux City Art Center.
The 1943 mural is considered a masterpiece that represented a turning point in Pollock's career and abstract art.
