SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Sioux City Police Chief Doug Young said a SWAT Officer shot and killed suspect Felix Navarrete, 29 around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Chief Young said a Veteran SWAT team officer, who's name is being withheld, fired one shot at Navarrete.
Navarrete had a handgun.
Young said the SWAT officer who fired the shot that killed Navarrete will remain on leave until he's psychologically well enough to go back to work.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - More details have been released after a fatal shooting in Sioux City's Morningside neighborhood.
Police say a suspect was shot by an officer around nine Tuesday morning.
They were serving a warrant at the 2728 South Helen apartment in connection with the West 27th Street homicide on Saturday.
Police say around 3:30 Tuesday morning, Sioux City police, US Marshals, DEA and the Woodbury County Sheriff's department were following a lead indicating the suspect from that homicide was inside the apartment.
After confirming the person was inside, the SWAT team entered the home around 9:30 a.m.
Police say they were forced to shoot the armed suspect to ensure the safety of the public and officers.
Police then say the suspect jumped out the second story window and was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The suspect's name is not being released.
The officer involved in the shooting has been place on administrative leave as part of police policy.
A news conference is set for 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
