SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) announced Friday that it will close its bakery located at 1500 North Highway 75 in Sioux City by March 28, 2014.
A company spokesperson, David Margulies, said the bakery produces bread and currently employs 64 people.
The company will shift production to other bakeries in the company.
"This decision was made after an extensive assessment of that concluded the aging facility could not compete in the marketplace and is not conducive to BBU's overall strategy for growth," said Didier Moleres, Regional Vice President of Operations for BBU's Central region. "This decision was, however, difficult because of the great team of associates at the Sioux City Bakery."
Human resources representatives met with all affected employees and union representatives to discuss severance and other benefits, as well as resources available to assist them.
"We value and respect our associates and are working to support them during this transition," said Moleres.
