With the 2014 Winter Olympics just days away, it seemed like the perfect time to teach kids about the games.

And, that's exactly why the Sioux City Public Library used the Olympics as their theme for this year's "Take Your Child to the Library Day."

Librarians said this day encourages families to check out the library and show their kids how much fun they can have there.

Saturday's events included reading Olympic-themed stories, taking part in a torch relay, and holding their own parade of nations.

"We understand how important the library is for families, how important books and reading, and early literacy are for families. And, the fact that we can combine it in to this wonderful world event of the winter Olympics is just really great timing," Youth Services Library Assistant Robin Wagner said.

Librarians said along with getting kids excited about coming to the library, they hope kids get pumped up about the Olympics starting too.
