More winter weather is pounding the Northeast

(NBC News) This week is shaping up to be one of the most brutal weeks of winter.

The first of three storms predicted to hit this week has already proven destructive and even deadly for parts of the country.

Snow fell at over an inch an hour along the I-95 corridor from Philadelphia to New York.

Hundreds of schools and businesses closed for the day.

Still, forecasters say none of this compares to what's coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nine to 12 inches of snow is expected in much of the Midwest, MidAtlantic and back into the Northeast.
