The Sioux City Explorers have announced the signing of RHP Matt Milke and RHP Alex Pagano. Both players will be classified as rookies, as per league rules, each American Association team must carry a minimum of four rookies on the roster if playing with the maximum in-season roster of 22 players. With their signings, Sioux City currently has five pitchers and four position players under contract for the 2014 season.
Milke, a native of Chula Vista, CA, was a member of the University of Brigham Young baseball team for two years. In his senior season, the right-hander led all BYU relief pitchers with 27 appearances out of the bullpen, while accumulating a 2.15 earned run average to go along with 4 saves and 38 strikeouts to 22 walks in 46.0 innings of work. Pagano, a 6’2” right-hander from Sebastian, FL, will also be making his professional debut this season in Sioux City after being seen in a workout this past weekend in Texas.
“The reports we received on both of these guys were outstanding. They both came highly recommended to us by individuals we trust, whom seen them throw in recent workouts,” stated X’s field manager, Steve Montgomery.
The X’s 2014 Home Opener will be Saturday, May 17th versus the Sioux Falls Canaries in a 7:05pm contest. The X’s are now accepting reservations for 2014 group outings for all 50 home games on the 2014 schedule.
