Nucor Steel announces $70M expansion in Norfolk, NE
NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) A Norfolk, Nebraska business plans to expand. This comes on the heels of Tejas Tubular Products saying it will build a new plant near the community... bringing with it 200 new jobs.
Tejas Tubular officials said that the major factors for locating in Norfolk was the proximity to their supplier Nucor and additional natural gas supply to coming the area.Area businesses, like Nucor and Tejas Tubular, along with the city entered into an agreement with Black Hills Energy to construct a new pipeline will increase the area's gas supply by 50 percent.
Both companies say that additional gas is huge to their expansion project.
"We're doing a $70 million expansion in our melt shop to increase our productivity by over 20%," Dirk Peterson General Manager Nucor Steel Norfolk, NE said.
Peterson said that Nucor's expansion will be complete by the first quarter of 2015, when Tejas plans to have their Norfolk facility fully operational.
