Reaching a consensus for a new farm bill was a long time coming.
U-S Senator Mike Johanns, of Nebraska, says he's happy to finally tell producers that they will have a risk management program in place that will help them weather the ups and downs that are inherent in farming.
"In terms of the farm bill's impacts on Nebraska there are things here that are good. This bill is not perfection. I would have like to have seen stronger payment limits and a movement away from target prices. Those two steps would have been a significant step in the right direction," said Mike Johanns (R) Nebraska.
The bill strengthens crop insurance programs, and extends disaster assistance, among other things.
Johanns says that he was glad to see the end of direct payments to farmers and certainty for the industry with a five year farm bill.
