SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) -- The Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington D.C. is a place for visitors to remember veterans and loved ones lost in that war.

For those who fought, and died, in Vietnam, there's a special place to honor their sacrifice.

Two replica panels of the wall were unveiled in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Monday night.

The half-scale panels will become a permanent fixture in the Interpretive Center of the Siouxland Freedom Park next year.

Of the 58,000 on the wall, 31 are from Sioux City and 5 from South Sioux City.

The two panels presented are special. The middle section is engraved with the 99 names from the Siouxland area.

"It's a reminder that the contributions that they made, which for them was the ultimate contribution were done on our behalf and came from people who lived here," said Mike Newhouse, President of Siouxland Freedom Park, Inc.

The two panels weigh over 200 pounds and are made from raven black granite from India.

The wall will consist of 70 slabs, two end pieces, and form a large triangle.

It will stand eight feet tall and measure 246 feet from end to end.

The panels will be displayed in the lobby of city hall until the Interpretive Center is complete.

Dedication for the wall will be May 28th
