Local kids experience symphony orchestra

Local kids get to spend a couple hours outside of the classroom to experience some classical music.

Twenty-four-hundred fourth grade students from around Siouxland arrived at the Sioux City Orpheum Theater this morning to experience literature in the form of music.

The symphony orchestra played two pieces; Romeo & Juliet and Peter and The Wolf.

The students were quizzed about the various sections of an orchestra and they were pretty excited to watch the performances.

So what was their favorite part?

"When the wolf swallowed the duck," said Maria Maxwell

"Peter and the wolf part," said Anthony Haberman

"The whole peter and the wolf performance," said Samuel Brannon

This is the first time for many of the fourth graders to experience a symphony orchestra.
