North and East will meet on Friday with the Missouri River Conference title on the line.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The boys basketball teams from Sioux City North and East will meet on Friday night, with the championship of the Missouri River Conference on the line.
The Stars, 10-1 in league play, have a one game lead on the Black Raiders, who are 9-2.
The first meeting proved how evenly matched these teams are.
The Stars trailed by two in the final minute when Deontre Dean laid it in to tie it at 49. But in the final seconds, East's 6-11 senior, Ikenna Okwarabizie tips in the go-ahead bucket to give East a 51-49 lead.
North's last chance was just off and East hung on for the win. It was North's only conference loss, while East has lost twice. The Stars are anxious for the rematch.
"Obviously the last loss stung a little bit, but we're past that and we're looking forward to tomorrow's game," said junior guard Daniel Tillo.
"It is a rivalry game, so no matter what, win or lose, there's really no motivation that's needed," said North head coach Cody Fisher. "We know that they have a good team, but we're not going to lie down for them. We're going to give them our best shot."
Game time on Friday is 7-30, at East High School.
