Lake Park, IA officials warn residents of possible chances of water pipes freezing or breaking

LAKE PARK, Iowa (KTIV) - Officials with Lake Park, Iowa Municipal utilities are sounding a warning over the chance of water pipes freezing and breaking.

They say they've had several service lines freeze this winter as extreme cold has allowed the frost to penetrate much deeper than normal.

To prevent freezing, they're asking customers to leave a very thin line of water---about the width of a pencil lead---running from just one faucet.

They'll give you a break on your bill.

You'll only be charged half the cost of the excess water, if you call the utility office and let them know you are running your water.

They expect the problem to last for weeks.
