Gala honors givers and volunteers in Siouxland community
NORFOLK, NE. (KTIV/US92) -
Giving and volunteering were spotlighted over the weekend in Siouxland, as the Philanthropy Council of Northeast, Nebraska held its third annual Celebrate Giving Gala Saturday.
The Philanthropy Council's annual event honors various community members and businesses for their efforts in giving back in the community.
The Council handed out awards for lifetime philanthropy, given to Norfolk resident Jim Bradford, Jr, as well as awards for Philanthropist of the Year, Youth Philanthropist of the Year and Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year.
Philanthropy Council officials said they wanted to do something special this year, so they gave an award honoring one of the area's great philanthropists, Johnny Carson.
"If you look around Norfolk, lots of things bear the Carson name and there's a lot that don't but have been affected by the dollars that Johnny Carson invested in his hometown and so through the Legacy Award we want to raise that up as an example of a way to keep giving even after your time here on Earth has passed and how you can continue to invest in the things you are about," says Tammy Day, a member of the philanthropy council.
Saturday's gala also honored the recent winners of the Youth Fund Youth Projects that did not win those recent grants.
