"The Tonight Show" returns Monday night with new host Jimmy Fallon at the helm

(NBC) Tonight's the night!

Jimmy Fallon makes his debut as host of the "Tonight Show".

It's a big move, not just for Fallon, but for the show itself, which is moving back east for the first time since Johnny Carson took the show to California more than 40 years ago.

Fallon inherits a legacy that started with Steve Allen and Jack Paar, then flourished in California with Carson.

"I wish Steve Allen and Johnny Carson were still around, just so they could see what we're doing with the show. And I think they would love it," Fallon says.
