Sabre Ind. to build 2,000 transmission structures for $2B wind energy project

A $2 billion project to send wind-generated power from South Dakota to Chicago and beyond is bringing a Sioux City business on board. Sabre Industries has signed a deal with Texas-based Clean Line Energy for up to $200 million. Sabre will build about 2,000 steel towers that will hold the transmission lines. Work is expected to begin next year or the year after.

Iowa's helping Veterans as they return home

Iowa lawmakers have approved legislation that would help veterans transition into life after military service. The House Veterans Affairs Committee unanimously approved three bills Monday that would help veterans more easily obtain occupational licenses or own a home. Republican Dwayne Alons of Hull chairs the committee. He said it's unanimous support is encouraging. The bills are now up for debate on the House floor.

Branstad weighs in on restoring voting rights to felons

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is firing back at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's call to repeal state laws that regulate voting by convicted felons. Branstad requires felons to prove they're paying court fees or repaying victims before their voting rights are restored. The Governor said that Holder, who was involved in the "Fast and Furious" project that gave guns to drug smugglers in Mexico, shouldn't criticize without knowing what's in the Iowa Constitution.

Iowa farmers collaborate to solve crop transportation problems

Siouxland farmers hear about transportation issues they may encounter during the upcoming planting and harvesting season. At a meeting with the Iowa Soybean Association Monday in Sioux City, officials said one of the biggest issues is inadequate roads to efficiently move harvested crops. Woodbury County Engineer Mark Nahra said they're working with the DOT to make transportation less of an issue for farmers.
